Retail is hurting.  Toys'R Us is only one company that is in trouble.  Malls are closing and many retail companies are in deep trouble.  Here's just one of many stories:

Multiple factors:  online shopping, a move to experiences from owning stuff, unappealing stores, and the same stuff everywhere.

There's an elephant in the room, IMHO, and that's the concentration of wealth and income into a small group of people.  Boom or not, if you want to sell a lot of expensive jeans, phones and toys, a lot of people have to have enough money to spend on that stuff.  The richest person on the planet only needs so many pants.  If you want to sell a billion pairs, a lot of people need to have enough money to buy them.
