Oil Tank Scan

Billy Cassie
Posted

Hi Here in NJ we have areas that have oil or gas fuel to heat the homes. Now many homes have converted to gas and some people have taken out the oil tanks and then how do you know maybe they did not. The town does not always have the info. I was told by the building department that they thought the tank was removed at one house, but the neighbor said it was not, he was right it was still there and the ground contaminated. That house is still for sale by the bank. No home owner to ask for paper work, bank owned house sold as is. I am a plumber so I know what to look for, old oil tank vent pipe and fill pipe, copper oil lines going out of house etc. my point is to be sure you don’t get stuck with a $50,000 - $100,000 clean up job, and that is not uncommon here when the oil gets in the water table. Do you pay for a tank scan on every house you buy.
Thanks Billy
