Lead Paint removal on the exterior of a house - and general paint

I am looking at painting a fourplex. Three stories with peaked roof.

First quote I got was $7500. I'm going to get a second, but I'm also wondering how difficult it would be to do it myself, with a little help. Anyone have experience on painting exteriors?

Also, looks like the exterior trim paint is lead. It's cracking and peeling. I want to remove it, but without hiring a contractor. What steps should I take to remove this paint safely?

David S. Might want to check the EPA guidelines on lead-based paint removal/abatement/encapsulation:

As a landlord I don't think you have a "do it yourself" option anymore. You could get certified yourself but it's likely more trouble than it's worth.
