Contractor stole money.. any recourse

So a general contractor named, who is on bigger pockets, has left me stranded for 3-4K $. He disconnected his phone, and has even seemed to start another business as he posts on the local Facebook trading post offering to power wash big rigs. Do I have any recourse here? We have signed contracts between our company and we have a paper trail for each transaction. Same old story it seems, we worked together on a prior rehab. I purchased materials, he wanted 1/2 labor costs up front and then payment after each item was completed. He did about 1/3 of the work and went MIA. Now he won't return emails, or messages on Facebook. He's posted his new cell number so I do have that. Do I have any options for recourse or do I have to eat this, and let karma work its self out?
