Bathroom renovations in B/C homes in B/C neighborhood

I have been looking at purchasing some B/C homes in a B/C neighborhood and I have not liked what I have seen in a lot of bathrooms (plastic wall panel), so I am looking to do some renovations if I do purchase. I am interested in finding out what materials others have used in the bathrooms in these types of homes. I am looking for materials that are durable and easily maintainable.
