Are the benefits of crowdfunding projects better than hardM/PL?

I am considering buying and rehabbing a project through crowdfunding... I wonder if any can tell me is it better or simply the same as hard money and private lenders? I realize that crowdfunding has changed...

You now can invest in crowdfunding rather than donating to entrepreneurs... but is it a step in the right direction or a step back from other borrowing methods.?

Does anyone have ideas on this issue?
