Buried oil tank inuse

One of my properties uses oil based furnace as heating source and has a buried oil tank. The system is operating just fine. But I noticed warnings on the internet about the dangers of buried oil tanks. They can leak and cause huge liability. I checked with my oil servicing company and they said they check the tank for presence of water. If there is water present in the tank, they assume there is a leak and will alert the owner.

My dilemma is whether to continue to use oil heat or get rid of it and replace with another source of heat. The issue of liability due to the possibility of leak is making me nervous. Any help is appreciated.
