Sliding closet doors

The previous owner somehow omitted the sliding floor to ceiling closet doors so I did not get it with the house. They are the fake brown wood that was custom by the builder.     I called a door place and was quoted some astronomical price.   $800 for a pair of 36" for opening 6 foot wide.  And I had a few.

Apparently the mirror ones are available in wider 8' opening than hollow core white ones.

Anyway looking at Home Depot the mirror is around $400-500 each.   About 8 foot high.  It would have a bit of overlap since the sizes are typical 3-4' each.  I would install the top and bottom rails and hang them myself.

Has anyone have trouble with the mirror ones from a safety liability standpoint with tenants.   I think it is fairly common even apartments and condo have them.

Not having closet doors in the master bedroom is starting to look bad.   The second bedroom of the house seems to be able to get away with it as they removed the closet door but trimmed with crown molding.   That one has a room width closet and almost 10 foot and cost about $1000.   (Door store quote $1600)

So DIY content is this: Do I screw the bottom track onto the carpet and when carpet is changed I would remove the track so it can be installed onto the subfloor for good ?   I am in no position to trim and tuck carpets myself
