Is there a website that you can go to review the contractor is legit?

In our state we check business credentials with the Washington Department of Labor & Industry. Across the border in Oregon we check business credentials with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB). Each state, and perhaps municipality, will have someone you can contact to check to see if the contractor is licensed, bonded, and insured.

Also, you can contact trade organizations to see if the contractor you are considering is connected within the industry with their professional peers. Some trade peers will even shed some light on the contractor's character.

Also, check references and ask to see some of their recent work. Doing a legal background check is also a good idea.
