Fire alarm system

I am looking into installing a fire alarm system in a 7 unit apartment building that I own.  I would like to do the work myself. I do a lot of the work myself on 1-4 unit buildings. Does anyone here do their own work on commercial buildings? Is it harder to get a permit if it is commercial instead of residential?

Contact your local fire marshal! He/she will have the information you seek. They can be a great resource and most likely will guide you in what you need to do and best practices.
