What counters to install for $1500 a month rental

Hey guys,

I need to decide on what to use on my  counter tops for a rehab that is going to be a rental @ $1500 a month. Basic granite around here is around $30 a square(or about $1250 for this kitchen). A nice tile would be less than a third of that. How much do people care about kitchen counters? Do you think it matters as long as it's decent and fits in with the remodel?
