Wholesale material prices in Charlotte, NC
Is it possible to get wholesale building materials without buying in bulk?

Hi Mike,
I'm a GC having worked in the northeast and having done projects from Maine to NYC. Wholesale prices seem to have gone the way of the Edsel with the advent of the big box orange and blue stores. Most small yards are surviving by offering great customer service and fast delivery, emphasizing convenience and time saving for the pros. The best discounts I have gotten were 10% for whole house packages, and 5% as a small town professional customer. Putting it into context though, its usually five or ten percent off a higher price. Competition is brutal for the suppliers so they're forced to keep their margins razor thin leaving little wiggle room for generosity.
I'd be curious to hear of experiences others have had on this topic.
