Does Any One Know the Benefits of a Newbie Investor with a CA RE License?

I became a licensed real estate agent; in order to start as an investor. One of the books I read recommended that it is better to become my own agent; however, in California, it seems to be a waste of time, because I have to work for a broker in order to access the MLS. Therefore, I feel like I wasted my time becoming a licensed agent. Any thoughts about this. I would appreciate it. Thank you.
