Converting SFH into Duplex via finshed basement rehab
Hi all,
I just closed on my first home in Leavenworth Kansas and will be house hacking to build my initial portfolio. The basement has already been finished, however, it lacks 2 egress windows for each bedroom and a full kitchen which I will need to rehab over the next few months to make rent ready.
I believe this will increase my home's value by adding 2 additional rooms and square footage along with a full kitchen and I'll be able to live in the basement while renting out the top floor.
I am looking for anyone who has done this successfully and has any advice for someone looking to do some of the work himself and eventually split the utilities to convert into a top and bottom duplex.
Any and all feedback would be appreciated as I am just starting off on this journey. About time!
Thanks,
Jordan
