How to deal with contractors/know the right prices and makeovers?

Contractors will suggest the most expensive makeovers. How do you know which are necessary and which aren't? How do you know if you can get a cheaper window frame or cheaper floors, or if the money you spend on the window frame is even worth you awhile? Maybe the money you're going to spend is higher than what you get in return, won't raise property value enough to justify the investment.

Your first sentence is a very weird assumption, and couldn't be farther from the truth.

Contractors often will suggest the makeover or path that makes the most sense for them (and what will give the path of least resistance). But they don't intentionally suggest more expensive makeovers.

You need to find a better contractor. There are some awesome ones out there who are honest, trustworthy, and ethical.
