, are you buying from a private seller or on the MLS? In either situation you can buy in your name. A DBA does not protect you in the event of a lawsuit. It just gives you a business name.

If you want to start a business, I recommend starting an LLC. You can do it yourself for about $50 online if I remember right. My accountant charges me $75. It will take you about 20 to 30 minutes. Then you can put your offer in using your LLC and if you buy it then you are protected personally.
