General contractor insurance

Hello,

We are getting ready to start rehab on a property that we are closing on this week. When speaking to our GC who does not have insurance, we requested he get it in order to get the job. He recently messaged us and stated "I talked to a friend of mine that runs a general contracting company and he said I should ask you guys if you would be ok to sign a notarized waiver of responsibility for any injuries that occur on the jobsite. Basically, it's a notarized legal document that we both sign and it states that I will solely be responsible for any injuries that occur on the job site." I still want him to get insurance, but I want to know if anyone has done this before and your thoughts. Thanks in advance
