Is the above diagram acceptable?

Can I split the feed coming into two switches running one to can less light and then another to the fan/light combo?

I see no issues with it. Generally you just need to make sure you don’t exceed the rating of the circuit ( so add up all your loads). 4 lights and a fan shouldn’t be close to touching capacity on a 15amp breaker.
