Intro Post/Real-Estate Accounting Resources/Oregon Trail

Hello friends,

Beginner and Chicago resident of ~10 years here.  I was initially overwhelmed by the gargantuan amount of information on Biggerpockets until I found this forum. So thank you for all the great information you're sharing everyday!

For my millenials who played Oregon Trail growing up, I keep thinking about how starting out in REI feels similar to starting out in Oregon Trail. You've got this huge journey ahead of you and you can choose between a number of different character classes (banker, farmer, carpenter etc) each with different starting bonuses and drawbacks. In my own journey I'm coming from an Office Management/Bookkeeping background with not much experience swinging the hammer (I do own a hammer, for the record).

I'm actually about halfway through a Masters Degree in Accounting right now and considering cobbling together a career of personal real estate investing in a limited number of multifamily units while providing CPA services that focus on real estate. I'm wondering what resources (people, podcasts, books etc) are out there that deep dive in to the accounting side of REI?

Also getting a TON of value from Mark Ainley and Tom Shallcross' Straight Up Chicago Investor Podcast! If either of you guys happen to read this, I'd love to hear an interview with a seasoned Chicago accountant that focuses on real estate sometime.
