Working With a Real Estate Agent

I'm new to Real Estate along with my wife after waiting so long to get into it. We want to first start off wholesaling and work up from there. One way I was hoping we could find properties was to find a Real Estate agent. If we want to start Wholesaling, can we still do this through a Real Estate agent? Are there any rules or laws that prevent an agent from sending me a property, and then I wholesale it?
