A/C Company Recommendations?

Problems with a unit in the Cape. Sent two different A/C companies to diagnose. They came back with different issues. One stated 3 issues...the other 2. Both companies identified one problem the same. One company recommends a fix just over $600. Other company states the first company is wrong and what they want to do won't fix the problem. They are telling me they will only install a new unit for $4600 but won't replace just the compressor because of its age. The house was built in 2006 and it is the original unit. I am now thinking I need to get a third opinion! Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks.
