Looking To Househack In Riverside, Ca (Inland Empire)

Hey all,

Longtime lurker here and am finally looking into getting my first home! I currently live in San Diego, but I was born and raised in the Inland Empire (Fontana). As much as we would love to stay here, me and my wife feel like we have been priced out of this market.

We are both 29, DINKs, and getting close to our 30k goal for 5% down on a 3BR+/2BA+ due to our high credit score and income. I have listened to several BP podcasts and gained a lot of valuable knowledge. I also recently read the book on house hacking by my good friend Craig Curelop.

With that being said, what's the outlook of Riverside looking like? Are there specific neighborhoods that would be good for house hacking? If not, are there other IE cities I should look into?

I am making a trip to my old stomping grounds Sunday (and plan on making many more this summer as we drive for dollars), so any advice is appreciated!

Hey Nathaniel! Honestly, I think Riverside is kind of clutch for househacking since we have 3 major Universities and a City college. I would recommend looking for something close to UCR if possible. Canyon Crest is a great area (that's where I live actually) and you'll have lots of students to rent rooms to unless COVID has a longer lasting impact on that than we expect.

Feel free to reach out with any financing questions you have!

Good luck!
