Expanding your circle

As I continue my REI journey my circle of "friends" has begun to shift. Many of you have heard the sayings "You are a reflection of the 5 people you hang around." and "Surround yourself with like-minded individuals/individuals that are working on the same/similar goals." With all of that being said, how did you implement this? In addition to attending local Meetups what other strategies are you/have you used to grow your circle? Has this been a challenge for you?

@Kristen Ray

There is absolutely no statistical evidence to back up the first claim you're citing, which is really "your income is the average of your five closest friends." It's a postulate created by motivational speaker Jim Rohn.

Make sure you're not losing the friends who can be relied on to call you out on your BS when you need it.
