Long term vs short term rental

Hi! Wanted to ask about investment strategy. Will have the opportunity to buy a couple of properties in the near future. Only have about 6 units in my portfolio. 4 currently rented and 2 almost ready to rent. I really like multifamily home purchases, but I would like to eventually try at short term rentals. Would you build a portfolio with long term rentals prior to investing in short term rentals, or would you use short term rental opportunities for quicker profit gain to expand on purchases of long term rentals. TIA!
