Funding my friends rehab on his new deal

Hi all and thank you for reading this. I have never done any sort of partnership deal before so I have come to BP to get suggestions and advice.

My buddy just purchased an investment property and has come to me for private money to fund his rehab. I have the money that he needs but I dont have a clue of how to structure the deal. In these sort of situations what is the standard expectation of the private money lender.

Of course getting my money back with interest but is it one lump sum, payments over time with a baloon payment due. I hoping that someone with experience can help me out.

Thank you in advance for all answers.
