Timeshare Relief- Is there money to be made?

Lately I have heard much about distressed holders of Timeshares. People that like many other areas of RE, bought at the highs and now wish to get out of their ongoing financial obligation. I have heard stories about timeshares trading as low as $100 just so the owner can get out of the ongoing ownership fee. I have also heard of companies that purchase timeshares at low levels to get owners out of their financial obligation.

Anyway, does it anyone think there is money to be made being the buyer of the timeshare? What if a group of investors pooled money together and bought a series of timeshares with the goal of renting them out above the annual ownership fee? Where would one find distressed buyers of timeshares? Just thinking outloud here..
