Converting SFH to multi
I have an interesting thought. As I recently shared on BP, we just purchased our first fourplex in August. We happen to live next door in a SFH, which makes it "mostly" beneficial. Anyway, my recent idea has been to enclose our car port and turn our house into a duplex (2/1 and a 1/1). We'd transition to one side and rent out the other, ultimately moving out and renting both units.
As I began my research and thoughts on this, I was reminded that our property was uniquely zoned R-3 (multi resident). We live in a small and desirable California community in the Sierra and there are limited rental opportunities with a fairly high demand here. We have the space (almost 1/2 acre) and was brainstorming about the possibility to go with more units. Started to think about all the potential barriers and challenges (parking, permits, utilities, design, infrastructure, costs, etc.), but also the massive potential.
Just wondering if any of you have done something like this and/or have thoughts on this idea. I look forward to hearing from the group. Thanks.
