Remodel Project: Making the smart investment
Having been in the construction business for 25 plus years, I have seen a lot of different styles come and go and one thing you always need to keep in mind when remodeling your house or any room is what may be in style now could change next year, next month, or next week. I wanted to briefly point out a few ideas that will help people looking at a remodel project.
Adding Value
Remodel projects change the value of your home, (hopefully for the better!) Talking to a couple professionals who understand what people are interested in can help guide choices that will help increase your home’s value. Contacting an interior designer and a real estate agent who works in your area will help you understand what types of finishes people like to see and help you estimate the future value of your home, Although you may not be thinking about selling now, it is alway good to build equity in your home.
Creating the Design
Another important concept to think about with your home is the floor plan. Knowing the future furnishings layout of any room in your house is important. Rooms like the kitchen and bathroom are high traffic areas, and can be especially busy over the holiday. Understanding the traffic or use of an area and knowing how to best utilize this space is important when doing any type of remodel project.
Keep an open mind
Remember when working with your design keep an open mind. Taking advice from others is important when it comes to resell value. Going with extravagant trends that are modern now may go out of style before you try to sell your home. Light colors and finishes have been shown to hold their value along with simple hardware and fixtures that are not overly trendy. Plus simple styles are usually cheaper and its easier to recoup the investment in the long term.
These are just a couple of quick ideas to help as you begin to look at remodeling different areas in your house. I have said it many times before and I will mention it again here. If you are planning any remodel project think about hiring a licensed contractor who knows the codes and will be able to help you come up with the design.
