People keep asking me if I will take section 8 and I have said no this far.  What has been people's experience, both good and bad?

I have 100ish SEC8 leases and it is my preferred tenant for low incom neighborhoods. Yes, they are higher maintenance than a high end rental, but no more so than any low income Tenant.
