Three Texas Cities To Dominate Home Construction In 2019

WASHINGTON (Realtor.com) – Three Texas metros have landed on Realtor.com's projections of the top ten cities for home construction in 2019.

Dallas ranked first with 63,421 permits, a 2.8 percent growth over the year. The median list price in the metro is $335,700.

No. 2 Houston has 57,021 permits—up 33.6 percent over the year—and a list price of $310,100.

The Austin area ranked seventh with permits growing 15.1 percent to 29,716. The median list price across the metro is $349,800.

The rest of Realtor.com's rankings are:

  • No. 3 New York;
  • No. 4 Atlanta;
  • No. 5 Phoenix;
  • No. 6 Los Angeles;
  • No. 8 Orlando;
  • No. 9 Seattle; and
  • No. 10 Washington.
  • Realtor.com analyzed census data to figure out where builders scored the most residential construction permits. The permits are for single-family homes, condos and co-ops, apartments, townhouses, and duplexes.

    The Texas Real Estate Center has building permit data for single-family, two-four units, and five or more units online.
