Texas Probate Law With no known relitives

I bought a house in Texas about 3 yrs. ago. I knew the house next door was vacant when I bought it and later found out that the owners had both passed away and have no known living relatives and that it was tied up with lawyers due to probate. The house is in a nice area and could be a very nice home but due to lack of upkeep has become a eye sore. I have been told that the deceased owners have been dead for about 7 yrs. now. My question is How long can it be held up because of the probate and what can be done to help get things moving so the home can be cleaned up? I have spoke with the lawyer and expressed interest in buying the property as have others.
