Listing Broker wants commission refunded

So anyway, I am a KW agent in Texas. I had some clients  lease a commercial building. My first deal.

Listing agent said he wanted to wait for the tenants checks to clear before he paid KW's invoice.

About a week later he gave me the check. Took it to KW and they cut me a check for my share.

Now the listing agent has contacted me to say that the tenants checks bounced and that he is going to have to throw them out. And that he wants the commission refunded. Said he found out that they had been evicted from their last place.

Of the approx 6k commission I only got about 2k of it. Can't really afford to pay them back and am not sure if this is on me anyway. I did what I was supposed to do. Wasn't my job to research my clients...was it?

I am going to call KW tomorrow but until then.........What do y'all think?
