Lincoln County - Newport Short Term Rental

Posted

Hi All, Does anyone have "boots on the ground" knowledge regarding the status/chances of getting an STR business license in Newport after the freeze on processing applications is lifted? I believe I read the city is putting a cap of 176 licenses in the "residential overlay zone" which extends south all the way down through South Beach area. I've got to imagine that there are already that many STR in operation no? Does anyone know what expected wait times are like? I'm trying to decide if I want to sell a house or turn it into an STR…in renovations now and the answer to that question will alter the finishes I put on the project. Thx in advance!

@Cameron Hunt Oh you’ll be fine by then! I did a little digging and research on the topic, and it looks like there’s a good chance by the end of 2020 they’ll be opening the list back up. The woman I spoke to at the sheriffs dept there said the list may seem large, but many people will fall off the list. Some may no longer have their properties, some may have decided never to buy a property, or any kind of circumstance that could cause one change their mind.

That all being said, it ultimately still boils down to a guessing game. But I feel like by 2023 you’ll be good!

Best to you, good luck out there 🙏🏻 🙏🏻
