Help !!!Failed Certificate of Occupancy Inspection
Hi All,
I am not sure how to deal with an issue. I recently purchased a two family in Irvington, NJ. I have a temporary C/O. We did a partial gut rehab and brought the living, dining and kitchen to the studs. I complied with what the temporary inspection wanted. I then arranged to have a full inspection done and I failed. The inspector listed things that were not originally on the temporary list He also asked that I paint a basement the is not occupied. The basement is dry. I don't know what to do. I am feeling that there maybe some "shaddy" stuff going on. THey asked me to paint a living room that is brand new and painted.
Can anyone advise on how to deal with this situation. I have never had to deal with Inspectors bullying me.

Call the township speak to a code enforcement official who came to your place and ask why they failed you for c of o. They have to tell you an exact reason and cite a code or law on why they didn't pass your co. Inspectors don't just go around failing people on co's for fun. We have codes and laws in NJ that are minimum and when they aren't met you fail inspection until it meets minimum requirements.
Just because a temporary co was issued doesn't mean that everything was done up to code after the temp was issued. They must have failed you for some reason.
last words of wisdom don't yell or give a inspector an attitude. Also don't try to bribe them because that's big toruble in in NJ. If there's any further issues with the building Dept reach out to the department of consumer affairs.
