Home Owner Cost a complete gut.
Hi this is a question for a home owner. We currently live in a 1600 sq ft single detached home with basement with a 225 sq ft family room built on a slab on the side of the house which was added before we bought the house.
Our son is getting married next year and my wife and I would like 1 floor living at this point in our lives
My wife and I were talking and both agreed wouldn’t it be nice to make the family room into a condo and give the house part to our son and wife.
Obviously we would need to get expand on the family room to a comfortable 2 person / 1 level living space. There’s no water or sewer lines. There’s gas for heat. We wouldn’t need to have separate utilities. If utilities can come from house that would be good.
Then we would like to do a complete gut of the house so my son and wife wouldn’t have to worry about anything for the long haul. Finishes etc don’t have to be top of line but don’t want crap. Also siding. Roof is 10 years old.
Don’t even though if this is cost effective.
What would the price per sq ft high estimate be for this type of project turn key? I do have 2 properties in Philadelphia and the cost was $65k for 825 ft row homes complete gut with new everything, medium grade finishes. Contractor isn’t licensed in NJ.
House is located in the Bellmawr NJ area, VERY close to Philadelphia about 6 miles across the Walt Whitman bridge.
Thanks!
