Bathroom remodel estimates

Hello All,

Recently purchased a duplex in South Minneapolis. I want to save on remodel cost and put as much sweat equity as possible. The property really isn't in bad shape and in a prime location (couple blocks away from 50th and France). We want to upgrade it so we can raise the rents, but don't have experience remodeling.

My wife and I are going to start with the bathroom. It's a little overwhelming, but we want to try and do most the work ourselves. Again we have no experience in remodeling, but want to learn as we go. Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

We plan to replace all the fixtures, new flooring, new tub and tile. Hoping to get it done for under $4,000.

Is this possible for a total newbie like me? or would it be better to hire a General contractor?

This is completely possible to get done for $4-5K if you hired everything out. MUCH less if you DIY most of it. I would reuse the toilet (unless it's nasty) towel bar, and storage cabinet. I would want a GFCI outlet by the sink and new lighting fixtures installed by a professional.
