Contractor Didn't Finish Work and May get Deported

Hi we hired a general contractor to manage a remodeling project for us. After working with him for weeks on the project and paying him money to do the majority of the work, he got arrested and we found out he may get deported.

Has anyone been in this situation and what are possible routes that can be taken to get our money back?

Thanks!
