Non-Michigan LLC buying property in MI - registration required?

Hello all,

Our Illinois-organized LLC is closing on its first out-of-state property (Michigan) later this month. It is planned as a rental. Does anyone hold property here through a foreign (non-Michigan) LLC?

Did you register with the state for the LLC to transact business in Michigan or not? What about Michigan tax authorities? We are consulting with our attorneys but they are Illinois attorneys so they are making a referral to a Michigan licensed attorney for their opinion. Just wanted to have a sense of what others in the same situation have done before the initial consultation.

Thanks!
