Should I buy a home for my child?
Hello bigger pockets family. I understand that this question is more philosophical in nature than investment related; hence why I've posted under the "off topic" umbrella. That said, I'm hoping to gain some insight from those who may have already had butted heads with this scenario.
A brief synopsis. I am approaching 30 and have 2 small children, a 2 year old and a 2 month old. I own two properties free and clear, one being rental the other being a small warehouse (3000 sq ft). God willingly but fairly realistically I will have also paid off my primary residence within the next several months.
In short it is time to start investing. I will be debt free and well "ahead" of the curve per my age bracket so far as net worth is concerned.
I'm prepared to start utilizing debt now that I've laid what I consider to be a solid foundation. With that said I've considered taking out a 15 year loan on a duplex I would then gift to my children as they become of age (18).
Financially speaking the idea makes sense to me. Morally speaking I'm unsure. I know many parents believe it to be socially/morally acceptable/responsible to pay for a child's college. That said I hold college in no such high regard and would be more comfortable providing them each with a home when entering adulthood then a degree. Am I asking for a problems or is this a good idea?
