Looking back over the last 5 years
5 years ago I didn’t think that I’d be signing the lease to my company’s first office. I wouldn’t even meet my business partners until a couple years later in fact. I was just beginning my real estate journey, reading books like Ken McElroy’s ABC’s of Real Estate and constantly scouring the forums on Bigger Pockets to learn the best ways to get involved in the industry. When I began, I knew that I didn’t want to be the person that just worked a W2 until retirement. There is nothing wrong with having a “normal” job, but I knew that I was supposed to be helping build something bigger. So as I worked at Domino’s delivering or in a warehouse shipping items all across the globe I had my headphones in, taking in every podcast, self help book or audio source of education I could find. I’d work during the day then I’d come home and get to work on my main focus, building a real estate investment business.
Finally the opportunity came to start working with two other W2 abandoning real estate entrepreneurs who had a very similar vision of both building a business and impacting a community. I jumped at the chance to begin building a company together. All of us were familiar with taking risks and with the fear that comes early on in a business, but we wouldn’t let it stop us. We began building systems, hiring coaches, spending thousands on marketing that we weren’t sure would ever come back, but we had faith that we could make it happen.
Fast forward to today. We have by no means “made it,” but we HAVE secured the first huge step in leaving our mark, our very own office in Huntsville, Alabama. 5 years from now, I expect to OWN the building we do business from. I see us as a thriving company helping people all across the USA. I see us creating jobs that give opportunities to people at income levels that change their family’s life.
I’m only bringing all of this up to say this: Take some action TODAY, because in 5 years you’ll thank yourself! Even if it’s small, if you consistently push towards your goal, you will get there. Can’t wait to look back in 5 years and see how far we have come!
