Unsafe Sidewalk liability Concern

So I put an offer in on a house but the sidewalk outside the house is uneven and could potentially be a tripping hazard. So my question is if someone trips on the sidewalk and gets injured would I be liable? If it is something I need to get fixed would my local government be responsible for fixing it or would I be? And has anyone had any issues with this sort of thing is it even something I should be worried about? Thank you!
