Clay drainage pipe- do I need to vent?

Drew Ander
Posted

Hi there Biggerpockets family,

I have a reno house that has 2 baths, main floor and basement. We completely gutted and replumbed the basement bathroom since the layout was so tight and odd. That job consisted of tearing into the old cement, pulling up a few clay pipe sections and a few lead pipes that connected to the shower, sink and toilet. I ran new 3 and 4 inch pvc pipes as the drains underground and tied them into the existing clay line with a rubber boot and adjusted down to 2 inch that came out of the ground for the drains. My question is, do I need to vent that, if the old set up wasn't vented? I am not sure if clay pipe has a venting advantage that pvc doesn't or if there is something I should be aware of. The upstairs bathroom is vented.

Thank you in advance!

Drew
