Any mortgage loan officers? Looking for some career advice.

I am pursuing a career in the mortgage loan officer business and I am just looking for tips or advice that anyone can give me to make myself competitive and learn. I have no college, but plan to start business school with a major in finance next spring. I have prior military service and I am studying for my NMLS license in CA. I was told I might have to start out as a loan officer assistant which is fine but I want to work hard and find tips to help me be successful in this career choice. My husband and I are soon to be REI's so we plan on making our lives around this field. If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it! I'm 100% willing to do what it takes to bring on my A game and work my butt off. Thanks In advance!!
