How Do You Get Your Girlfriend Interested In RE Investing?

I know this is almost more of relationship advice than RE investing advice... lol but I'm asking for my brother... he is really wanting to get into investing in RE, but his Girlfriend is just not a fan of it to say the least.

To give some background on her situation she didn't really grow up in a world where there was "An Abundance of Money" So my opinion is she doesn't really believe it's possible for her to be successful in RE. And that is what is keeping my brother from taking a step forward and beginning to invest in RE.

Any advice would be appreciated, I am just going to forward it all to him, lol!

Thanks!

Hey Matthew,

Great question and I'm sure plenty of people have dealt with this.

I have personal experience with this as my wife grew up similar to your brother's gf... It took some time for me to get through to her regarding REI but she came around after about 6 months of us being together (now together 5 years).

The first thing that helped was open conversation about goals. Have your brother get VERY specific about what he wants to achieve and how he wants to achieve it.

The more vague/broad he is, the more of a fantasy it will seem like to his gf. i.e. "I want to become a millionaire from investing in RE" VS. "I want us to invest in 100 properties in our lifetime. We will begin by investing in 1 property in 2020 that will be in the $X-X price range and will require a $X initial investment. We currently have $X saved and will need to save $X per month in order to reach this year's goal"

Once she sees exactly what needs to be done to take that first step, she'll begin to see how feasible this all really is. I'd also recommend someone gifting her "Rich Dad Poor Dad". When my communication with my wife on the subject of RE wasn't enough, Robert Kiyosaki was able to get through to her lol!!

If none of this works, she may just need some more handholding until the epiphany hits her. If they have serious plans to be together in the future, they'll make it work!

Best of luck to you and your family moving forward... Happy Holidays!

Abel
