Does the BP app send notifications on iPhone?

I've never been able to get the BP app to send popup notifications on my iPhone. I just checked my phone settings and the app has notifications turned on. Does the app just not send them? 

I'm aware that I can (and do) get email notifications from BP. But that's not quite what I'm looking for here. Thanks for the input!
