Breaking into the commercial real estate industry
Hi all,
My name is Luke Miller, and I am a junior at the University of Iowa majoring in finance with an entrepreneurial management certificate. I am looking for advice on how to break into the CRE industry, looking for an internship in the industry this coming summer. My GPA is 3.11/4.00, I have recently joined a real estate club on campus, am in a stock investing club, as well as have previous mortgage internship experience. I am proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
I have cold emailed around 30 firms and formally applied to around 20 positions, getting some responses and setting up interviews in March. However, I have not received a lot of feedback. Does anyone have any tips on things I can do to get my foot in the door or boost my resume to meet the criteria for positions in this industry? Any feedback or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm a construction project manager and we have one developer in our office. They run really lean in the CR & IC area so its going to be tough just jumping right in unless you have connections. All the developers that I know typically have real estate license which is very simple now days and you can do it online in probably 3-4 wks and then just take the test at a testing agency. If you can afford it your best luck is going to try and get a unpaid internship if you really only want to do the development side.
