Improving BP

I'd like to start this thread to share ideas & experiences so that BP can continue to grow & improve.

My 1st idea/proposal:

I think there should be a minimum amount of experience, whether its # of posts or some other measure, before classifieds ads are allowed. Otherwise, have the "seller" pay for the ad.

I really enjoy the community feel of this site, and I have made a lot of good contacts. The scenario I would like to minimize would be that of someone coming in & essentially spamming the site.

Joshua & the other moderators have been great about staying on top of threads that go nowhere, but I am just looking for a better way...

I am new to posting here, but this is a great site. The only small nuisance I find is when I try to 'update' a post, or when I send/receive introductory messages (colleague requests) there is a certain character limit that is not known at the time of writing. I was wondering if it is possible to let the character count available be known, or even if you cannot type more after the limit is reached. That would be awesome.
