What is Real estate competition?

I would really like to know what the competition or hurdles that newbies like me have to face against the seasoned investors? For example;  Sure, I can do all the homework and be extremely accurate with my numbers, but will there be a time where I would totally be ignored just because of nonexistence portfolio?
