How to get rid of pollution

It is high time we save our planet from the vicious clutches of pollution, and even more importantly, the health and well-being of the people who depend on it. The air we breathe is laden with hazardous contaminants and our oceans and waterways have been poisoned with chemicals. Industrial pollution has adversely affected biodiversity for the last two centuries and continues to increase globally.

There are two approaches through which pollution can be reduced:

1. Reducing consumption or usage of a polluting product

2. Treatment of wastes, discharges and disposals of a pollutant

I live in an industrial area. The area is completely polluted by the industrial wastes. The air which we breathe in is mixed up with pollutants. The main reason for the pollution is that the industries dispose of the wastes without care. Last week I informed the companies to take proper care for the waste disposal, but still, there is no use. I have 2 kids at home. I know that it is more hazardous for children. I am in a situation not knowing what to do. Has anyone faced this situation sometime before? What is the next step that I should do? Are waste disposal companies reliable? Can someone help me with your valuable suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
