Today I went to the Aviation Nation airshow at Nellis Air Force Base here in Las Vegas. I’ve been going to the show every year since 2003. Security at the base was very tight after 9/11, but a little more relaxed the last couple of years.

Today was a different story. It normally takes a few minutes to get through security, metal detectors, etc. Today it was well over an hour. Every bag was searched and the metal detectors were cranked up to such a sensitive level that almost anything would set them off. I talked to one of the airmen about it and it seems that security has been drastically increased in the aftermath of the shooting at the Texas base.

The show was great as usual and the Thunderbird demonstration was once again spectacular.
